This training provides an in-depth exploration of the Interpersonal Psychological Theory of Suicide (IPTS) and its clinical implications. This training will review the scientific research supporting IPTS, highlighting empirical findings that validate the theory's application in clinical settings. Participants will also gain an understanding of how the core premises of IPTS contribute to suicide risk. Finally, clinicians will learn how to integrate IPTS into suicide risk assessment, prevention strategies, and treatment planning, ensuring that their interventions are informed by evidence-based principles. By the end of this training, participants will be better equipped to apply IPTS concepts in their work, enhancing their ability to recognize warning signs, tailor interventions, and improve outcomes for individuals at risk.

An introduction to behavioral activation for treating depression

When: Thursday, September 11th 11am-2:15pm MST | Where: Live online | Cost: $39.99 | Target Audience: Clinicians | CE Hrs: 3 CEs*

*This presentation is hosted by Cognitive Behavior Institute (CBI). CBI is an approved APA, ACE/ASWB, NBCC, & New York State Continuing Education Provider. Click below for more details.

Depression is a highly prevalent and impairing condition often characterized by isolation, avoidance, and reduced engagement in meaningful activities. Behavioral Activation (BA) is a structured, evidence-based intervention grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) that targets these patterns by helping clients reengage with value-driven behaviors. Research continues to support BA as an effective treatment for depression across diverse populations (Gawrysiak et al., 2020; Richards et al., 2023). This training will introduce clinicians to the key behavioral features of depression and the theoretical foundations of BA, including how avoidance reinforces the downward spiral of mood and behavior. Participants will learn how to apply core components of BA such as daily activity monitoring, identifying personal values, and planning goal-directed activities to help clients interrupt depressive cycles and build momentum toward recovery.

evidence-based approaches to anger management using cbt

When: Thursday, October 30th 8am-11:15am MST | Where: Live online | Cost: $39.99 | Target Audience: Clinicians | CE Hrs: 3 CEs*

*This presentation is hosted by Cognitive Behavior Institute (CBI). CBI is an approved APA, ACE/ASWB, NBCC, & New York State Continuing Education Provider. Click below for more details.

Anger is a natural human emotion, but when it becomes frequent, intense, or poorly regulated, it can significantly impact personal relationships, occupational functioning, and overall mental health. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has been shown to be an effective, evidence-based approach for helping individuals recognize, understand, and manage problematic anger (Deffenbacher & White, 2020; Öst et al., 2022). This training will introduce clinicians to key cognitive and behavioral tools for anger management, grounded in CBT principles. Participants will learn how to differentiate between adaptive and maladaptive expressions of anger, address common myths about anger, and identify the unique patterns and triggers that perpetuate a client’s anger response. The course will emphasize practical strategies clinicians can use to support clients in developing more constructive ways of expressing and regulating anger.

Moral injury (MI) and the accompanying feelings of trauma-related guilt and shame are common in trauma-exposed clients and are strongly linked to more severe mental health challenges (Norman et al., 2022). Trauma-Informed Guilt Reduction therapy (TrIGR) is an evidence-based approach designed to help individuals process and reduce MI symptoms in the aftermath of trauma. This training will offer a comprehensive overview of the TrIGR protocol, including guidance on suitable clinical cases. It will also provide insight into when the use of TrIGR may not be clinically appropriate. Lastly, it will provide participants with an introductory understanding of how to effectively implement TrIGR in a clinical setting.

cbt for substance use disorder (3-part series)

Substance Use Disorder (SUD) affects millions of individuals and is associated with a range of psychological, physical, and social challenges. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Substance Use Disorder (CBT-SUD) is an empirically supported treatment model that helps individuals reduce problematic substance use by targeting the thoughts, behaviors, and environmental factors that contribute to ongoing use (Kiluk et al., 2019; Magill et al., 2022).

This three-part intensive will provide clinicians with a structured overview of CBT-SUD and practical tools for each phase of treatment. Part 1 will focus on developing a collaborative case conceptualization and using motivational interviewing techniques to enhance engagement and readiness for change. Part 2 will introduce core CBT interventions, including managing cravings and urges, building refusal and coping skills, and increasing engagement in alternative behaviors. Part 3 will cover strategies for maintaining progress, strengthening commitment to change, and addressing setbacks or relapse. This series is ideal for clinicians across disciplines who work with clients engaging in substance abuse.
