PTSD assessment

I am available to provide PTSD assessment services for individuals, researchers, and businesses/organizations seeking to screen for or establish a PTSD diagnosis. I can also provide a detailed written report of the assessment results for an additional charge.

I have conducted hundreds of PTSD assessments utilizing the Clinician-Administered PTSD Scale for DSM-5 (CAPS-5), the gold standard in PTSD assessment. In addition to assessing for clinically significant PTSD symptoms and diagnosis, it also targets the onset and duration of symptoms, subjective distress, and the impact that symptoms have had on one’s overall functioning.

  • Psychological assessments are a vital tool that can be utilized for a wide range of needs. For some, a PTSD assessment may provide the clarity that they’ve been seeking by establishing (or ruling out) a diagnosis of PTSD. Such clarity can lead to a deeper level of understanding and can allow a person to seek out proper treatment. Assessments may also be used for practical reasons, such as civil litigation, employment/disability eligibility, forensic services, and emotional support/service animal applications. I encourage you to contact me to discuss how I can help you.

  • Most reports will contain information about the appointment (e.g., date of the assessment, referral reason, purpose of the assessment) and the evidence-based assessment being administered. It will also include a brief background about the client’s presenting concerns, a detailed analysis of findings from the assessment, and a diagnostic section. Please note that I do not include subjective recommendations in reports (e.g., subjective determinations on fitness for duty).

  • To be eligible for a PTSD assessment, you must have experienced at least one identifiable traumatic event in your lifetime and be experiencing symptoms that you believe may be directly tied to this experience (see below for “How do I know if I have experienced a traumatic event?”).

The first step to scheduling a PTSD assessment is to set-up an initial 15-minute consultation call which is 100% free of charge. During this consultation call, I will answer any questions you might have and will also conduct a brief eligibility screening. If you are eligible, we will schedule an appointment for the assessment.

  • PTSD is the only mental health diagnosis that has a “prerequisite”, which means that in order to be diagnosed with PTSD, you must have experienced a traumatic event in your lifetime. If someone believes they might have PTSD but cannot identify a traumatic event, or, if they have experienced a traumatic event but do not believe their symptoms are in any way associated with it, this would be disqualifying for consideration of a PTSD assessment and diagnosis.

According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5-TR), a traumatic event is defined as exposure to actual or threatened death, serious injury, or sexual violence in one (or more) of the following ways: (1) Directly experiencing it; (2) Witnessing it, in person, as it occurred to others; (3) Learning that it occurred to a close family member or close friend (in cases of actual or threatened death, the event must be violent or accidental); (4) Experiencing repeated or extreme exposure to aversive details of the traumatic event(s) (e.g., first responders, 911 operators).
